A Pastor's View on the "Homo Demons"

http://news.yahoo.com/barack-obama-released-homo-demons-black-men-claims-113052217.html

When I hear the word homosexual I automatically think of genetics. Someone who is homosexual did not simply make a choice to be; they were born that way. It is not simply a choice for an individual in the LGBT community to choose to be straight or choose to homosexual. I was born a brunette. Does this mean I chose this? Some people are saying that a homosexual chooses to make this decision when they don’t look into the idea that that individual was born that way.

Pastor James Manning believes that by Obama and his administration supporting the LGBT community is influencing black men to claim they are homosexual and leaving black women without a man in the household. Pastor Manning goes further to say that a black woman cannot compete with a white homosexual man because he has money. The sign above was posted outside the church just to further facilitate the pastor’s anti-gay notions. This story relates to our class reading over “Challenging Sex/Gender Binaries” with regard to societal views with heteronormativity. People who fall outside of this ‘norm’ are judged based on their sexuality. In “Challenging Sex/Gender Binaries”, the term queer was used as “hateful and oppressive term” (179), which directly links to the context of Pastor Manning’s usage of the term. Individuals should not feel oppressed due to differentiating views that society expects.
